Dr. Cally Ko, the former General Manager of Google Cloud Taiwan, has been appointed Vice President and Distinguished Professor at LungHwa University of Science and Technology (LHU). The primary objective of this strategic appointment is to strengthen the university'ss partnerships with the technology industry and to harmonize research and innovation with practical applications, with a particular emphasis on AI, 5G, and cloud services. Additionally, the appointment will promote integrating innovation and research with real-world applications. Vice President Ko's proficiency in information security, deep learning, and generative AI will be instrumental in the university's ability to forge partnerships with the emerging technology sector and offer guidance to faculty and students as they enter the international market.
Vice President Ko has a wealth of experience in the technology sector and possesses a doctoral degree in Management Information Systems from the National Taipei University of Technology and a doctoral degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from the National Taipei University of Technology. She has held significant management positions in the high-tech industry, including General Manager of Microsoft Asia, Global IT General Manager of Trend Micro, Co-CEO and CIO of GigaMedia, CIO and Chief Information Security Officer of Delta Electronics, Vice President and General Manager of Delta Electronics, and General Manager of Google Cloud Taiwan. Her academic and professional background is extensive.
Vice President Ko spent 15 years at Microsoft, establishing global technical support and customer service centers in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and India. Additionally, she established communities, the Most Valuable Professional (MVP) program, and team members for Microsoft on a global scale. She is the first enterprise user of VMware to virtualize Trend Micro's global services and the first company to sign a global contract with AWS. Additionally, she migrated Trend Micro's global services to the cloud during her tenure at Trend Micro. She received the Best CIO Award as Chief Information Officer and Chief Information Security Officer at Delta Electronics. During her three-year tenure as Vice President and General Manager at Delta Electronics, she effectively achieved a growth of $369 million in the revenue performance of key global customers, from $446 million to $815 million. During her tenure at Google, she spearheaded the expansion of the Google Cloud Taiwan team, facilitating the adoption of technologies such as Google Cloud, Google Workspace, Google Security, Google GenAI, and Google Vertex AI by a variety of public and private organizations, including the Ministry of Health and Welfare, TSMC, MediaTek, AUO, Foxconn, Cathay Financial Holdings, and Fubon Group. This achievement was a remarkable success in the industry.
The university's dedication to advancing expertise in smart manufacturing, AI, IoT, cloud computing, big data, and XR technologies (AR/VR/MR) was underscored by LHU President Dr. Tzu-Hsiang Ko. He observed that Dr. Cally Ko's leadership is indispensable in improving industry-academia collaboration, as generative AI is precipitating a new digital revolution. He expressed trust that Dr. Ko's extensive experience in AI, deep learning, and cybersecurity will assist the university in navigating the obstacles of digital transformation, thereby establishing LHU as a significant participant in the global technology landscape.
