Lunghwa University of Science and Technology's Industry-Academia Collaboration Program Sees Five Overseas Chinese Students Win CTCI Foundation Technical and Vocational Skills Scholarship

CTCI Foundation (formerly China Technical Consultants Inc.) recently conducted its “CTCI Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship” award event, honoring 128 exceptional students from 22 institutions. Five overseas Chinese students from LHU's Industry-Academia Collaboration Program were awarded a Vocational Scholarship of NT$50,000 each following a comprehensive document evaluation. LHU distinguished itself as the university with the most significant number of scholarship recipients.

Founded in 1959, the CTCI initiated its scholarship program in 1963 and has maintained it for 62 years, distributing over NT$10 million. In 2023, to address the changing demands of vocational education, CTCI launched the Technical and Vocational Skills Scholarship to support students enrolled in industry-related programs under the Ministry of Education's Industry-Academia Collaboration initiative after they complete their first year in higher education institutions. This award aims to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional practical skills, encourage their transition into the field, and embody experiential education's “learning by doing, doing while learning” philosophy while fostering talent to satisfy industrial requirements.

The recipients from Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, all overseas Chinese students, are enrolled in the Information Electronics Application Industry-Academia Cooperative Program, the Electronic Engineering Industry-Academia Cooperative Education, and the Circuit Board Application Industry-Academia Cooperative Education Program for Oversea Compatriot Students, all within the Departments of Electronics and Electrical Engineering. They have exhibited outstanding performance in both academic pursuits and internships.

The goal of establishing the Vocational Skill Scholarship is to encourage students to enroll in the Industry-Academia Cooperative Education Program; kwan-nin Kuo, Director of LHU's Office of International and Cross-Strait Cooperation, stated that the university nominated five students—four females and one male—for the CTCI Vocational Skills Scholarship, all of whom successfully passed the screening procedure, thereby establishing Lunghwa as the institution with the highest number of recipients. Of the 25 students granted the Vocational Skills Scholarship countrywide, merely seven were female, with Lunghwa representing four—a fantastic accomplishment.

President Tzu-hsiang Ko highlighted that LHU, a pioneer in vocational education, is Taiwan's sole private technological university, possessing three billion-dollar-level practical training bases sanctioned by the Ministry of Education and specialized facilities, including semiconductor component manufacturing and packaging testing laboratories. The institution, equipped with advanced teaching and practical facilities and skilled professors, has partnered with prominent industry leaders to synchronize student training with industry requirements, fostering outstanding vocational potential.

President Ko emphasized that, in the contemporary day, obtaining postgraduate degrees no longer ensures employment or social standing. Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, adhering to its fundamental principle of "pragmatism and applicability," distinguishes itself in multiple vocational domains, providing distinct strengths and benefits. This allows students to remain aware of industry developments, improve their employability, obtain employment after graduation, and facilitate a promising future.
