LHU Commemorates Its 55th Anniversary and Announces the Signing of a Dual Degree Agreement with Thailand’s Chulalongkorn University.
On December 7, 2024, Lunghwa University of Science and Technology commemorated its 55th anniversary. During the anniversary ceremony, LHU and Chulalongkorn University, Thailand's top higher education institutions, inked a dual-degree program agreement to cultivate semiconductor talent. Political Deputy Minister of Education Ping-Cheng Yeh, Director-General of the Department of Technological and Vocational Education Yu-Hui Yang, Deputy Mayor Ming-Ju Wang of Taoyuan City, Director Ming-Wen Chang of Education Department, New Taipei City, and executive director Narong Boonsatheanwong of the Thailand Trade and Economic Office all attended in person to witness this important milestone for Lunghwa University of Science and Technology.
Political Deputy Minister of Education Ping-Cheng Yeh emphasized that he had taken the initiative to convey his desire to attend the LHU anniversary ceremony to witness this historic moment during his speech. In addition to being the premier national university in Thailand, Chulalongkorn University is a prominent institution in Asia, ranking among the top 200 universities worldwide. Today, Taiwan's vocational education has reached a significant milestone, with Chulalongkorn University's sole option of collaborating with Lunghwa University on a dual degree program in semiconductor engineering.
Deputy Mayor Ming-Ju Wang of the Taoyuan City Government, on behalf of Mayor San-Cheng Chang, conveyed his appreciation to LHU for its substantial contributions to Taoyuan City since its inception. In particular, the university has fostered numerous exceptional alums, significantly contributing to Taoyuan's current industrial output value of 4 trillion NT dollars, the highest in the nation. Deputy Mayor Wang expressed that the government aspired to collaborate in the promotion of vocational education, youth entrepreneurship guidance, and employment with LHU and continuously leading in the fields of smart manufacturing and artificial intelligence applications, assisting students in broadening their international perspectives.
Chairman Tao-Heng Sun of Lunghwa University expressed his appreciation to the founders, Mr. Fa-Min Sun and Madam Shu-Chuan Sun-Chen, for their contributions to education through industry. He also commended the previous presidents for establishing a strong foundation for the school. He asserted that the school's sustainable operation will receive the complete support of the board, resulting in a more conducive learning environment for students and a sense of pride and honor among alums.
President Tzu-Hsiang Ko underscored that LHU maintains its unique educational approach, which emphasizes resolving practical issues and pursuing research and development for the industry. The volume of industry-academia collaboration had surpassed 320 million this year. The school remains committed to promoting the pursuit of double majors, minors, and interdisciplinary programs, and it firmly emphasizes AI-enabled courses in the classroom. This approach prepares students to become experts in hardware technology and software applications for the AI era and to service the industry.
Dr. Witaya Wannasuphoprasit, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, Academic Vice Dean Dr. Sawekchai Tangaramvong, Head of the Department of Electronic Engineering Dr. Chaodit Aswakul, Director of the Charoen Pokphand School of Management Pollasak Ruongpany, President Ren-Shu Yang of University of Science and Technology Beijing, and Vice President Jiang-Kun Huang of Quanzhou Normal University, among other distinguished guests, were invited to participate in the anniversary celebration. Immediately following the ceremony were various celebratory events, including a carnival, a gratitude dinner for alumni, the “Lunghwa's Best Performance Team” award ceremony, and a creative cheerleading competition. Joy and affection emanated from the campus, showcasing the unity and solidarity of the Lunghwa faculty, students, and alums.
