Vocational students from Lunghwa University of Science and Technology secured a double gold medal in the 2024 AI Taiwan Micromouse and Intelligent Mobile Robot Contest.
On August 18, 2024, the 20th "Micromouse and Intelligent Mobile Robot Contest" took place at Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, where the Department of Electronic Engineering student team showcased outstanding performance. Students in vocational programs excelled, securing top honors in both the high school and vocational group categories with their impressive projects, "Robotrace" and "Mazemouse." Additionally, university students secured second and third place in the university group category for the "Robotrace," bringing home two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze among their achievements. This effectively showcases the outstanding computer science expertise of the school's faculty and student teams.
LHU, in collaboration with MOE, proudly hosted the 20th National and International Computer Mouse and Intelligent Wheeled Robot Competition. There are three exciting categories in the competition: "Mazemouse," "Robotrace," and "Linemaze." With 85 teams from 24 vocational institutions and high schools nationwide, the event showcased students' remarkable skills and unwavering passion for robotics technology.
The LHU student team showcased outstanding performance in this competition. A team of five-year junior college students, led by Professor Su Jinghui from the Department of Electronics, achieved remarkable success by clinching first place in both the "Mazemouse" and "Robotrace" categories for high school and vocational school divisions, proudly representing their institution. Su Jinghui's team triumphed in the college division of the "Robotrace" competition, securing first place, while Lin Xiansheng's team from the Department of Electronics proudly claimed third place in the same division.
Professor Chen Hongren, the competition's chief judge, conveyed his gratitude to all contestants and their guiding instructors for their spirited involvement. Professor Chen highlighted that the computer mouse, a fundamental element of the competition, features self-sustaining power systems, microcomputer technology, and advanced sensor technology. With its impressive memory and analytical skills, it can quickly adapt to its surroundings, utilizing advanced algorithms for efficient path planning.
Lunghwa University President Tzu-Hsiang Ko highlights that the essential professional skills for the competitive landscape of computer mice and intelligent wheeled robots encompass artificial intelligence applications, software programming, and electronic hardware design. The electronics industry offers a diverse array of opportunities for these skills. It enhances the technical skills of participating students and provides them with essential practical abilities crucial for university graduates. This significantly boosts their edge in the job market and cultivates outstanding talents that align with industry standards.
The computer mouse transcends its role as an essential electronic device; it stands as a concrete illustration of artificial intelligence technology, harmoniously blending hardware with software and theory with practice. The computer mouse competition has become a vital arena for developing students' hands-on AI skills through this complex technical challenge. Consequently, it is often dubbed a compact robot equipped with artificial intelligence.
