The “Higher Education Sprout Project” of the Ministry of Education is Taiwan’s most extensive competitive grant program. Lunghwa University of Science and Technology (LHU) received US$ 4.9 million in 2024, marking the seventh consecutive year it has received more than US$3.3 million. The annual sum has steadily increased, and total financing has topped US$29.8 million, far outpacing that of private colleges located north of Central Taiwan.

President Tzu-Hsiang Ko describes the university as “an exceptional university of science and technology that is committed to the development of practical talent for industries and the provision of innovative technical services.” Based on this orientation, LHU is committed to encouraging industry-academia partnerships. This involves forming industry-academia collaborations with businesses, establishing industry research and development centers, and making ongoing investment in resources to optimize faculty and facilities, along with other hardware and software advances on campus. The primary goal is to improve the integration of multidisciplinary technology and build various intelligent, practical training platforms to help students compete in the job market.

President Ko stated that the university has received about US$29.8 million in government subsidies over the last seven years, primarily to improve student learning outcomes, including a maximum grant of US$2,333 for students completing double majors or minors, as well as up to US$4,000 in subsidies for students participating in exchange programs with partner schools abroad.

Furthermore, students who compete in contests and invention awards outside of campus receive full support, with winners earning further incentives of up to US$2,000 and fully subsidized exchanges with partner institutions abroad. The university also offers free professional certification advice and English proficiency test preparation workshops, covers students’ registration fees for professional certification exams, and awards significant scholarships upon successful completion. Students enrolled in Specialized Achievement Degree Programs get a maximum annual subsidy of US$167. They can also use free cloud-based professional software, allowing for online study at any time and location. The university also provides subsidies for students’ graduation exhibits and corporate trips, ensuring they do not suffer any costs. This is a genuine privilege for Lunghwa students.

President Ko emphasized the value of vocational institutions in fostering industrial aptitude and providing a solid foundation for national sustainable development. The institution offers a comprehensive educational track, ranging from vocational school to doctoral degree programs, which are tailored to meet each student’s needs. This pathway provides a variety of study abroad and work opportunities. Lunghwa enables students to pursue their passions while earning degrees and developing professional practical skills, ensuring seamless career development and diverse prospects.
