On July 29, Global Views Monthly published a report identifying Taiwan’s top-rated universities, as university presidents and vice presidents judged based on educational performance. Lunghwa University of Science and Technology (LHU) received significant praise for its “overall performance,” ranking as the top private university and trailing only national leaders such as the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and the National Taipei University of Technology. LHU also ranked #1 among private colleges in engineering manufacturing and computer and communication technology. Cheers and Global Views named LHU the most beloved private university for its “Most Beloved Graduates” earlier this year. For the sixth consecutive year, it has been named one of Taiwan’s top 20 institutions for educational performance growth in the 2024 Cheers competition. LHU is ranked second behind National Cheng Kung University. The ranking cements LHU’s position as the only favored choice among private technic institutes, demonstrating its extraordinary educational qualities.

According to President Tzu-Hsiang Ko, LHU follows an educational philosophy of “pragmatism, excellence, and innovation,” positioning itself as an applied technology university dedicated to developing high-quality, practical talent for businesses and providing new technical services. For many years, LHU has been devoted to improving practical education that integrates learning and application, focusing on skill development and industry-academia cooperation. The university is committed to continuously enhancing instructors and facilities in each college’s “simulated practical training environments,” to support long-term industry-academia collaborations.

In response to generative AI development trends, LHU has established an AI application experience lab on Microsoft Azure and integrated AI and ChatGPT into its teaching procedures. “Basics and Applications of Generative AI” is a required course for all sophomores. Advanced courses draw on the experience of multiple departments to address practical applications such as AIOT intelligent system design, big data analysis and applications, introduction to neural networks, machine learning, and deep learning, game AI, translation technology, and practice. These courses teach students how to use AI tools to solve challenges successfully.

As President Ko noted, LHU has invested more than NT$300 million in recent years to fulfill the hardware requirements of AI development as it transitions to the AI age. The goal is to create LHU as Asia’s leading university for developing practical talent in the electronics sector while improving industry research and development outputs to enable industrial advancement. LHU students find instant work after graduation due to their competency in AI applications and increased competitiveness in the job market, which is supported by rigorous instruction at various practical training bases.
