The National Science Council subsidizes research projects for college students. This year, Lunghwa University of Science and Technology had 21 projects approved, ranking the top three among private universities of science and technology in the nation. The number of approved projects and the approval rate have significantly increased compared to last year, demonstrating the school’s excellence in teaching, research, and practical skills, all of which complement each other remarkably well.

President Tzu-Hsiang Ko of Lunghwa University of Science and Technology stated that research projects for college students are crucial and influential for their future studies, studying abroad, and even job seeking. When it comes to graduate school admissions, many professors place great importance on students’ interest in research. If a student has received funding for a research project during his or her undergraduate years, it indicates the student’s dedication to his or her field of study from an early stage. For students planning to study abroad, these experiences and achievements can significantly enhance their study plans.

President Ko pointed out that the research conducted by Lunghwa’s faculty and students is not just for the sake of research, but mainly to achieve high-quality outcomes through industry-academia collaboration. The future development paths of technical and vocational colleges differ from those of regular universities. Regular university students might have a stronger theoretical foundation and front-end design capabilities, while technical and vocational students excel in practical skills like manufacturing, testing, and calibration. The key is to have students start internships while still in school. Besides absorbing theoretical knowledge in class, students are encouraged to engage in hands-on practice after class to enhance their practical abilities. Over the years, Lunghwa has continuously invested resources to improve the practice fields for quasi-industry environment in various colleges, enhancing faculty and equipment, and has established industry-academia alliances and talent cultivation partnerships with the industry.

With Lunghwa’s active encouragement for students to engage in competitive research and the collaboration of various colleges in organizing academic and research activities and competitions, its faculty and students have continually expanded their research capabilities. In the 2024 National Competition for Technical College Students’ Practical Projects and Achievement Exhibition, the Lunghwa team had nine projects shortlisted. They won six major awards, including two first-place and four third-place awards in six categories, making them the best-performing university of technology in the competition.

President Ko emphasized that Lunghwa University of Science and Technology is committed to cultivating practically skilled talents for the industry, enhancing students’ interdisciplinary knowledge and practical skills. The faculty and student teams will continue to understand industry needs through industry-academia collaboration, ensuring that practical research aligns with industry demands. They aim to build strong workplace competitiveness for their students, proving that technical and vocational students can shine brightly and become the most sought-after talents in future society.
