Lunghwa Inviting Japanese Scholars to Lecture: Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration in High-Speed Transmission for Talent Cultivation

publish date : 2024-03-25 update date : 2024-07-29

The rise of Generative AI has sparked a surge in demand for high-speed computing capabilities. In response, Taiwan’s high-speed transmission industry is eager to hire talented people with relevant skills. Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, a key player in this field, has established the Cultivation Base for the Electronic Apparatus Design of High-Speed Transmission Interface and Testing Talents and Technology through a billion-dollar project funded by the Ministry of Education. Since its official launch in November 2023, the university has been at the forefront of talent development, hosting international forums and inviting top scholars from Japan to share the latest information on the high-speed transmission industry and technology practices with Taiwan’s partner schools and industry representatives. The aim is to collectively drive technological innovation, deepen industry-academia collaboration, and foster talent development to enhance Taiwan’s international competitiveness.

To strengthen academic and industry-academia collaboration, Lunghwa University, under the guidance of the Department of Technological and Vocational Education, Ministry of Education, and Taiwan Assessment and Evaluation Association, organized an international forum on electronic apparatus design and testing of high-speed transmission interface in December 2023. Partner schools like National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and National Taipei University of Technology, along with scholars and experts from various industries, gathered to discuss topics aimed at pooling experiences and wisdom to enhance Taiwan’s high-speed transmission industry.

At this forum, Assistant Professor Takashi Tomura from Tokyo Institute of Technology presented a keynote speech titled Origami Deployable Membrane Reflectarray Antennas for Cube Satellite, sharing the latest research findings. These findings have the potential to revolutionize the high-speed transmission industry. Attendees actively engaged in questioning and discussions, contributing to expanding international perspectives in both industry and academia.

Additionally, on March 18, 2024, Lunghwa University welcomed renowned scholar Professor Qiang Chen from Tohoku University, Japan, in the field of electromagnetic engineering. Professor Chen delivered a lecture on Antennas: Fundamentals and Application, sharing research results with the Lunghwa faculty and students while exchanging the latest industry technology and practical information with representatives from Taiwan.

Professor Qiang Chen is a well-known scholar in the fields of electromagnetic engineering, antennas, and microwave technology. He has served as the chairman of the Tokyo Section of IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society and has been elected as a foreign member of the Japan Academy of Engineering. The research direction of his Electromagnetic Engineering Laboratory at Tohoku University includes antenna engineering, microwave/millimeter-wave technology engineering, environmental electromagnetic engineering, and computational electromagnetics, all highly relevant to the talent needs of Lunghwa University in cultivating professionals for mobile communication module testing and tuning, as well as electronic apparatus design and testing of high-speed transmission interface.

The Electromagnetic Engineering Laboratory at Tohoku University significantly influences electromagnetics, with many important inventions in the microwave antenna field originating from it. Vice President Yih-Chien Chen of Lunghwa University emphasizes the hope that this visit will promote academic exchanges between the two universities, paving the way for future visits and deepening friendly cooperation in antenna technology. This will further enhance the development of AI high-speed transmission industry and talent cultivation in Taiwan.
